Converting static HTML site to WordPress was not so easy but I have found this good website where it is clearly written how to convert static HTML website into WordPress easily. Static HTML websites are good for SEO as Google or any other search engines crawl it and cache it easily and with a static HTML site you can optimize the keywords and can rank better in search engines in short period of time but wordpress is a brilliant CMS and with the good SEO plugins you can rank even better than a static HTML website.
But yes, definitely wordpress websites take more time to come up in search engine result pages in a steady way but if you post regularly with unique keyword rich content mostly for the site visitors, not only for search engine robots, then your wordpress site can even rank far better than the static HTML site.
Normally SEO efforts take a minimum of 30 days to get noticeable result but it is a continuous process. Who promise you that guaranteed top rank in few days for certain keywords are promising false and from my own long experience I came to know that SEO is altogether a strategy game that depends on various parameters and it is an ongoing activity. A well optimized static HTML website can give you steady ranking from 6 months onwards where as a wordpress site might take a year to be steadily ranked but when it starts to come in search results, you’ll be amazed that you might get the top rank suddenly after a year.
Obviously exceptions are there. There is no substitute of hard work and with good efforts you can lower down the time line to be ranked well in search engines. For a well optimized website a combination of static HTML site and wordpress is good.
